BRUCE M.
SULLIVAN is professor of religious
studies and Asian studies at Northern
Arizona University, USA. His previous
books include

Dvaipāyana Vyasa and the

Samvarana: Tapati-Samvarana and the
Kutiyattam Drama Tradition
(coauthored with N. P. Unni). He has
published professional articles in the
